This guide is to show you how to donate to alliance technology, and explains why you should.
Part 1: How to Donate
First, start by clicking the alliance button on the bottom right of the screen:

You will be brought to the alliance overview screen. From here, select the “Alliance Techs” button:

The game will automatically take you to the “recommended tech”. This is indicated by a small red thumbs up symbol on the technology that is recommended by leadership for you to pump your donations into. You do not have to only donate to this technology, if you see a different tech that interests you more. But you should donate to the recommended one and I will tell you more information on this later. Select the recommended tech:

Since this tech is recommended, there is a 20% buff applied to your donations towards this tech, as you can see on this screen. There are 2 options to donate. One option is with diamonds, starting at 2 diamonds and getting progressively more expensive the more you donate. This is not required, only if you are feeling generous and want to help progress our techs faster should you choose this option. The other option is to donate gold. With the large amount of gold earned every hour from your mines in your base, it is a such a small amount per donation that it is almost insignificant. Select the option indicated below to donate:

Gold donations are limited, with 1 donation every 20 minutes allowed, and the game banks up to 30 for you. If you press and hold the donate button, you can rapidly donate 30 times in just 2 seconds. If you log in once in the morning and once in the evening, you can donate 60 times per day, this gives you 6000 donation points minimum (without multipliers) and will allow you to reach the recommended minimum easily. You can donate more than that per day to help research the buff faster, but this is the minimum recommended by our alliance. You can see your total donation points for the day on the previous screen:

Part 2: Why should I donate to alliance tech?
Each technology in the alliance donation tree provides buffs to every single person in the alliance. When a tech has enough donations to be researched, leadership will start research on the tech and when it is complete, everyone in the alliance gets that buff. Just like when you research technologies in your research center within your base, these buffs can range wildly. Faster troop training times, lower resource cost for construction, faster march speed, and increased unit damage are just a few of the buffs that can benefit both you and your alliance mates.
Part 3: Why is leadership recommending this tech instead of others? And why should I donate to that one instead of one I want?
There could be many reasons for this.
In the examples above, the “Veteran Craftsman” tech is recommended because at the time of taking these photos, the alliance was preparing for season 2 of the game. That specific technology reduces resources cost for constructing, and this includes season-specific buildings using season-specific resources that are scarce at the start of the season, so therefore researching this tech is beneficial to the alliance at the start of the season.
If there is no specific tech that leadership sees has direct benefit, they may choose something else as a general assistance to the alliance, such as increased movement speed. You can always ask leadership to change the recommended tech, but be prepared for them to say no. There may be a good reason for it!
You should still donate to the recommended tech as you will receive 20% higher points than if you choose a different one, this will help you reach the 6000 point goal in only 2 logins at 30 donations each. Additionally, this 20% increase will research that tech 20% faster, resulting in you and everyone in the alliance getting that buff 20% sooner.
